Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10 percent, or more, of school days for any reason, including excused, unexcused, or disciplinary absences. Students who are absent due to school sponsored activities are not considered absent for the purposes of this calculation. If a student has missed more than 7 days in a period, they are in jeopardy of not receiving credit for the semester for that period. ATTENDANCE: GWHS will be monitoring the reason(s) students are absent from school. What does this mean to you and your student(s)? It means that parents need to be aware as to why their student(s) are missing school. Student/Parent ATTENDANCE APPEALS will not be approved if a student missed more than 10 percent of class without a truly legitimate reason for being absent. If students are missing school due to avoidable reasons, they will be in jeopardy of not earning credit, repeating classes, and ultimately affecting their graduation status. We are working to increase communication with parents and families through our school website and Infinite Campus. I believe partnerships with parents and our community is essential to the Lake schools' success. We will continue to create opportunities to work with the community and include parents at our schools by partnering with our Parent Club, our Boosters, and building community relationships and partnerships. It is my hope that we will continue to provide a higher-level of educational experience for all our students while improving our unique offerings moving forward. I believe in supporting healthy programs for athletics, academics & the arts. Every child is unique and we desire to provide the most offerings as possible for all students to engage in deep and meaningful learning at school. These offerings include, but are not limited to our athletic offerings, Advanced Placement (AP) classes, and CTE (Career and Technical Education) programs such as Culinary Science and Computer Science. The addition of two grow domes at Zephyr Cove Elementary School provides a unique opportunity to add to our environmental science options K-6 while we expand on our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) foundations and connect science learning K-6 to potential CTE pathways in science, including robotics and computer science. Having children of my own has provided me with the experience as an elementary, middle school, and high school parent. Just like your children, each of my children are uniquely gifted in different areas and have unique needs for support. My promise is to support your students as unique individuals and always seek what is best for every student. We support PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) and SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) as a school. We are improving school safety by adding an updated key card security system to support single point of entry and programmed locking of exterior doors at both schools.
